Another year.........eeek???

Oh my goodness, another year has gone and I haven't updated Manny's blog....shame on me. Well, I am going to try to fill you in on what's happening today.
This year the Fort Myers Walk along the Caloosahatchee River, McGregor Blvd. and Edison Park with features of the winter homes of Thomas A. Edison and Henry Ford, has changed just a little, there is a new start place...the new Publix Supermarket at 2160 McGregor Blvd. This walk is open daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter (the days Publix is closed), on Sundays, if you wish to take in the Edison Home during the walk (time permitting) it does not open until noon. Special classifications include Courthouses in the USA, Railroad Heritage, Riverwalk America.

The Punta Gorda walk was re-opened in May 2008, it starts at the Museum on the left inside Fisherman's Village, 1200 Retta Esplanade, Punta Gorda, 33950. Due to Hurricane Charlie this walk is now along Charlotte Harbor and in the Historic Downtown Area, many of the 14 Historic Murals are included in the walk. Special classifications included here are Courthouses, Museums and Riverwalk America.

Venice and Highlands Hammock

New Years Eve day was a delightful day to do some walking, we had to hit a couple of the walks to update the information in the "walk box" and to see what, if anything, was needed to make these walking experiences more enjoyable and as stress free as possible. Everything appeared to be in order, so left our updates and went on our way. Highlands Hammock State Park campground was full to capacity, the picnic area was teaming with people and the "circle" had some activity as well, some bikes, some walking and some strollers. Some folks decided this was just a time to do just plain relaxing. Everyone was having a great time and the weather was just perfect.
Then on to Venice, update the walk box at the CVS at Venice Ave and US41 and a little tour of the walk route and Venice Beach, what a lovely walk that is. Some of the charm of the City of Venice and some of the historic parts and then on to the beach and the jetty. Water (Gulf of Mexico) was kind of choppy, but for the most part was very pretty, altho' a little windy. Lots of people checking it out and walking on the jetty. Some boats in the water and even a dolphin or two. Turned out to be a lovely day, really enjoyed it.
The link above will take you to the American Volkssport Association website and then choose a link from the column on the left, find a state and then a walking event and go for it. These walks make for a very enjoyable day and a healthy one too.

See you on the trail.....

Those who wander are not always lost!!!
